1. Plate
The plate is produced in a wide variety of shapes, including the straight-type, L-type, Y-type, C-type and box-type.
The thickness is 1.0 and 1.4 mm.
2. Screw
The screw has two different applications: it is used for fixing the plate and for individual use. The thread diameter is 2.0 and 2.7mm, and the length is in the range of 4–16mm and 16-20 mm respectively.
3. Mesh/Sheet
The mesh/sheet has a length in the range of 25–50 mm and a thickness between 0.3 and 0.7 mm.
Procedures to transform the OSTEOTRANS-MX mini-plate
OSTEOTRANS-MX mini-plates are bendable using water bath (75℃). When you bend the mini-plates to adjust the bone contour, please follow the below procedures and examples.
Procedures
The OSTEOTRANS-MX System can generally be used in the same way as metallic osteosynthesis devices, however, its mechanical strength is inferior to metallic, therefore, caution should be exercised to avoid unreasonable force. Please use the custom-made surgical instruments (drill bit, tap bit and screwdriver) which matches to the type and size of the product. As the screws are not designed for self-tapping, therefore tapping is required before insertion. The screw should be inserted only after thoroughly cleaning the hole after tapping. To avoid screw head damage, insert the screw with the screwdriver, with downward axial-loading applied.
1) Making a bone contour with the template
- (a)Select the same shape and size of the template as the mini-plate
- (b)Place the template over the region of use and make the bone contours
2) Contour the mini-plate
- (a)Bend the mini-plate slowly after warmed enough in the water bath using a pair of custom-made forceps
- (b)Adjust the bent curves to the contoured template
3) Plate fixation with screws
- (a)Drill a guide hole with a custom-made drill bit to a depth of approximately 1 mm shallower than the total screw length.
- (b)Carefully tap the screw hole using a custom-made tap to open it wide, and clean (irrigation/suction) the bone chips.
- (c)Attach the screws to the screwdriver designed for OSTEOTRANS-MX and carefully insert to fix the plate onto the bone.
Precautions
Please use an emergency screw if adequate fixation cannot be obtained with the normal screw. If the screw breaks, please drill and tap again, and drive a new screw into the same hole.
