FIXSORB
A bioresorbable osteosynthesis material
When treating bone fractures, metallic (stainless steel and titanium) devices, such as screws are conventionally used in bone repair surgeries to secure the bones. However, when they are present for a long time within the body, they may cause adverse effects; typically, they must be surgically removed after the bone heals. This causes physical and psychological pain for patients and can delay their rehabilitation.
FIXSORB, developed by Teijin Medical Technologies Co., Ltd., is a bioresorbable material for osteosynthesis(screws) that solves these issues associated with metallic osteosynthesis materials. These screws, manufactured by our proprietary advanced technology, are composed of a polymer (PLLA) that degrades and resorbs in vivo. PLLA is a safe material that is completely degraded, metabolised and eliminated from the body as carbon dioxide and water after a few years, thereby eliminating the need for removal surgery.
- Degrades and resorbs in vivo; therefore, there is no need of removal
- Degrades slowly; thus, it does not have any adverse effects on the human body
- Its strength exceeds the human bone; therefore, it secures the bone firmly in place until the bone heals
